What to expect?
This session will be an Oxford style debate proposing that we should all be talking more publicly about the positive actions and progress in business, even if they are imperfect, as by not saying anything we lose the opportunity to share the journey and learnings with others.
Many businesses have quickly retreated from greenwashing to greenhushing to avoid being called out for being imperfect, even if they are attempting to do the right things.
For example, some dairy businesses, are not publicising the improvements and progress they are making on carbon sequestration and regenerative farming for fear of being called out for greenwashing by dairy free supporters. There can be in reality both bad and good dairy, but equally there is good and bad dairy free.
We will debate this “horns and halo” effect on diverse types of businesses and the communication approaches to drive transparency and action.
Why join this session?
If you are concerned about accusations of greenwashing eroding the credibility of those who are genuinely making progress, or the secrecy of greenhushing which could prevent greater sharing or ideas and progress this session is for you!
What are the key outcomes?
An understanding of the arguments for and against having transparency of actions being taken in business, even if they are not perfect.
