Conversational coaching skills to change the world

What to expect?

Ever find yourself stuck for what to say when a conversation about the state of the world turns depressing? Or get convinced by someone else’s defeatism, and don’t know how to shake it off? What if you had an easy way to nudge conversations back into optimism? What if you could turn every chat into one that leaves you both inspired? In this fun, practical session, the award-winning Climate Change Coaches will give you simple, high impact coaching tricks that you can use throughout the festival, with the person sitting next to you in the auditorium, on a stroll through the city, and even on the bus back to your hotel. You’ll learn how to renew someone’s faith in change, dial down the overwhelm we can all feel when things seem complex, tackle the big bad ‘there’s not enough budget/people/time’ and get back to being ambitious for the world.

Why join this session?

If you want to have incredible conversations at Louder Than Words, we will give you killer questions to transform what people think is possible. If you want to evangelise the B Corp way but sometimes feel overwhelmed by the scale of the challenge we face ‘out there’, we will give you techniques for grappling with complexity. If you sometimes kick yourself for talking more than listening, we can show you what to say to get the most out of your conversations during the festival, and beyond.

What are the key outcomes?

Come along to learn powerful, but fiendishly simple skills for transforming mindsets, taken from our peer-reviewed book “Climate Change Coaching: the power of connection to create climate action” (Open University Press, 2022). Specifically you will learn:

  1. key questions that make conversations more optimistic,
  2. techniques for empathising with someone’s concerns without agreeing with doom and gloom,
  3. researched ways to shift limited mindsets to make change feel possible,
  4. practical skills to reduce the overwhelm we feel when we tackle complexity,
  5. how to speak differently to get the most out of conversations
