How to Do Good: Active bystander intervention for cultural change

Hosted by: Diversifying Group Leading the change Audience Size: 36 - 100 View map Buy Tickets View full agenda

What to expect?

We’ve all witnessed unacceptable behaviour, from harassment to bullying – but what can we do about it, and how do we look after ourselves in the process?

Research highlights the role of the Active Bystander in not only stopping harassment, but also changing social norms surrounding our behaviour and its impacts. This interactive session takes you through the steps to become an Active Bystander and equips you with the tools to safely tackle harassment, discrimination, and hate crime. Join us for the chance to practice the 4Ds of Active Bystander Intervention, build your knowledge of what constitutes harassment, and discuss the role of allyship in causing meaningful change.

Together we will take ownership of our collective responsibility to create safer environments in our workplace and wider communities, and explore how active allyship is vital to forging more inclusive spaces for all.

Why join this session?

Have you ever thought “someone should do something about that”? Together, we can become that someone. Throughout this session, we will build confidence and practice techniques for creating both immediate and long-term change, reducing the negative impacts of unacceptable behaviour and safeguarding against its reoccurrence. If you want to get to grips with your role within the wider context of cultural change, empower yourself to take action, and become a better ally, this session is for you.

What are the key outcomes?

After this session, you will feel empowered, motivated, and confident in tackling unacceptable behaviour, as well as being equipped with the tools and techniques to take action safely. Viewing allyship as an active process, you will feel excited to make a lasting impact on our cultures and communities, and realise your own personal power in making the world a better place.
