What to expect?
Despite good intentions, “diversity hiring” often misses the mark on creating true inclusion. Recently, there has been a shift from “hire more women” to “hire more Black people.” But this misses the point. It’s time for a radical rethink towards genuine workplace inclusion, and why as B Corps, we should be leading the way.
I will uncover why the hyperfocus on hiring visual diversity isn’t the win you think it is, and how this translates through to retention and progression. Leaning on years of D&I experience and candid client interactions, this session will lift the lid on where companies (with the best efforts) are still going wrong, and how you can avoid their mistakes.
By debunking the myth that inclusion means lowering standards, I’ll argue to widen the gate, not lower the bar. Armed with compelling statistics and real-life stories, I will reveal the gulf between hiring intentions and genuine workplace inclusion and deliver a takedown of tokenism.
Why join this session?
Participants will be part of a safe and productive space where we can support and encourage one another to keep pushing for better places of work. Throughout the talk, participants will have opportunities to get involved, be prompted to re-examine their own biases, and truly understand an inclusive hiring campaign.
What are the key outcomes?
I aim to ignite hope in the B Corp community by showcasing the benefits of fully embracing diverse perspectives and experiences, beyond quotas. Small steps can lead to seismic shifts, and with my talk I will arm participants with the tools to make effective change in their workplace, from recruitment to retention and progression – ‘the golden triangle.’ As B Corps, we are already on the right track, but we cannot be complacent – there is always more we can do, whether a company of two or 200. I hope to leave attendees energised and inspired to be a part of this transformative journey towards genuine inclusion.
