Rt Hon Chris Skidmore was the UK Energy Minister who signed the UK’s net zero commitment into law in 2019. He later was asked by the government to lead a major independent review into net zero, publishing the Mission Zero report in January 2023, described by Lord Stern as a ‘remarkable and important piece of work’. He resigned from Parliament in January 2024 in protest at the government’s decision to legislate for new oil and gas licences. Following his resignation, Chris launched the Climate Action Coalition (www.coalition.climateaction.org) with John Kerry in June 2024, and has also established a new investment bank, Desmos Capital Partners, to help support sustainable companies seeking to raise capital and support private finance investment.
